Yes it does sound a little like a history lesson, but it is given in such a manner that it skilfully and neatly pulls the reader so far into the novel that they have no choice but to read to the end. The book itself could be broken down into thirds the first brings into the light that confusing history of the Wars of the Roses, and for readers who are not up to speed with the ins and outs of this time it is a great way not only to get to know the key players, but where they fit together in the whole sorry mess. I found none of this when I read this long 936 page book. Being a Yorkshire woman by birth and therefore, a staunch Yorkist, I was slightly apprehensive when I picked this up as most accounts of Richard III and the House of York are based on Tudor propaganda from the times, and are slewed very much in their favour. She recommended it to me on the basis of it being the most accurate account of the times she had read in fiction form. I was first introduced to both the book and the Author by my History Professor whilst taking my Masters in History many years ago. This was the debut novel for this Author. I’ve either mentioned this book or the Author several times during the life of my reviews so I have decided it was about time I actually wrote a review on the book itself. These data indicate that the non-perfused area along the endocardium is a site of active angiogenesis and a promising target for MI treatment. In contrast, cardiomyocytes in the border zone’s hypoxic area underwent apoptosis within 12 h of MI, and the border area that was amenable to treatment disappeared. Moreover, enhanced angiogenesis increased cardiomyocyte survival along the endocardium in the ischemic zone and suppressed ventricular remodeling in infarcted hearts. Here, we describe a novel circulatory system wherein new vessels develop from the endocardium of the left ventricle to perfuse the hypoxic area and salvage damaged cardiomyocytes at 3–14 days after MI by activating vascular endothelial growth factor signaling. Identifying targets that benefit from angiogenesis treatment is indispensable for the development of revolutionary therapies. However, the mechanism and timing for new vessel formation in the mammalian heart following hypoxia are unclear. It has been speculated that the ischemic border zone is a unique area rescued by angiogenic therapy. Angiogenesis can reduce MI-induced damage by mitigating hypoxia. Cardiomyocytes are susceptible to apoptosis caused by hypoxia during the acute and subacute phases of myocardial infarction (MI). Sam has had a rough life going through the foster care system. Seeing as I'm kind of obsessed with Jane Austen, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of this one. MGO: Who would you say influenced you the most to become a writer?Īlso, Stephen King. I can just picture it now-TV interview, camera focused on me peering out from behind an armchair at Katie Couric, the microphone picking up on a very tiny, “eep.” If I ever become a famous writer, this could potentially be a very bad thing. I'm really quite shy, and until I started college the idea of public speaking made me want to hide under a table. Especially one with a shiny gold foil that says nice things about me in Latin. And you know what? No harm came of it! (Take that, elementary school teachers!) I have a BA in psychology and graduated from my university with honors-which sounds more impressive than it is, since it turns out you can't actually do much with a BA in psychology. I'm 24-years-old, and still letting my imagination run away with me. Writing is basically for adults who never grew out of playing “let's pretend.” As a kid, I was a total whiz at coming up with “let's pretend” games. I don't think becoming a writer was ever really a conscious decision storytelling has always been an activity I enjoyed doing. What made you decide you wanted to be a writer? MGO: Tell us a little bit about yourself. |
